Arlington Heights man faces porn charges

A 43-year-old Arlington Heights man faces a single charge of aggravated child pornography for using his computer to download videos and photographs of children having sex, authorities said.

Robert Schultz, 43, of the 500 block of South Lincoln Lane, was released from police custody Saturday after his 75-year-old father posted a percentage of his $10,000 bail.

On Jan. 31, a detective with the Chicago Police Department was monitoring file sharing networks for child pornography and could see someone in the 500 block of South Lincoln Lane had been downloading files, prosecutors said.

The detective passed the case onto Arlington Heights police, who obtained a warrant and arrested him Thursday, authorities said.

Police confiscated his laptop and found 10 videos and several photographs of underage children engaged in sexual conduct, prosecutors said.

He admitted to police that he downloaded the images and that they were his, prosecutors said.

Schultz’ attorney, Scott Biestek, said he has lived with his parents all of his life and suffers from severe social phobia, which means he has extreme fear of people, of social situations, has no friends, rarely leaves the house and can’t hold a job.

As a condition of his bond, his father will terminate the Internet service on one of his own computers and use a password for another one that he will not share with his son. Schultz was also ordered not to have contact with any children.

Schultz is scheduled to appear in court April 11 in Rolling Meadows.
