State cites Oak Park nursing home after death
Illinois has cited an Oak Park nursing home for failing to adequately supervise residents following a fatal assault on an 80-year-old man with advanced dementia.
Illinois Department of Public Health spokeswoman Melaney Arnold said Friday that Oak Park Healthcare Center was cited at the highest level possible after state regulators investigated the assault and death.
Nursing home resident Anibal Calderon died last month from a brain injury. His death came two days after he was assaulted by a younger resident who had a history of aggressive behavior.
Arnold says state inspectors will go back to the nursing home within 60 days to make sure the facility’s plan for staff training and other improvement is working.
Calderon’s family has filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against the nursing home.
