Man shot dead in Waukegan parking lot

A 29-year-old man was shot and killed outside a Waukegan Burger King late Thursday afternoon, according to police.

An argument between two people in the parking lot of the restaurant, 3140 W. Belvidere Road, turned violent, police said.

Early reports indicate the shooting was not gang-related, said Waukegan police Cmdr. Gabe Guzman.

The 29-year-old victim was shot in the head about 4:50 p.m., Guzman said.

The victim, whose identity was withheld pending family notification, was pronounced dead at the scene, said Lake County Coroner Artis Yancey.

Yancey said it appeared the victim was shot in the head by a single bullet but could not confirm that until after an autopsy scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday.

No one was in custody as of late Thursday, and police did not have a description of the shooter.
