Pure Oil station worth saving
Your recent articles by Susan Sarkauskas about the threatened 75-year old Pure Oil service station at Fourth and State streets in Geneva have been most interesting. The Geneva Historic Preservation Commission is to be congratulated for their decision to deny permission to tear the building down. Not only is the building visually interesting on its own merits, but it has historical significance due to its service to travelers on part of the Lincoln Highway.
Geneva was an important refueling stop on this country’s first transcontinental highway, and the 75-year-old Pure Oil building marks an important phase in the development of our area. Every effort should be made to preserve this building. Another drive-through bank hardly seems to merit the loss of this treasured structure.
