Wisconsin assembly delays action on several bills

MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin state Assembly has delayed action until next week on numerous proposals including one to legalize a wolf hunt in the state and another to lift an enrollment cap on the popular Family Care program designed to help keep elderly people in their homes.

The Assembly planned to vote on the measures Tuesday. But at about 1:30 a.m. early Wednesday morning Republican leaders decided instead to adjourn and take up the unfinished bills next week, its final week in session.

Another deferred proposal is one that would require kindergarten screening exams and teacher evaluations based partly on test scores as part of an initiative to improve reading scores. Another would make it a felony to offer anything of value to induce someone to sign a recall petition.
