Slow down through Sun City Huntley
Welcome to The Hemmer 500.
To all you people who live in Del Webb, we all are familiar with the 500. It’s the main street going through from Del Webb Boulevard north to Main Street and Marengo Road. The speed limit is posted at 35 mph but, as we all know, much of the traffic travels between 35 and 55 mph. Many people walk their dogs after 6 a.m. and that’s when the madness begins. Don’t try to cross the road then or you may become a statistic.
People cut through our village going to and fro and you, the pedestrian, had better beware. The local police department was notified several times and nothing was really done. There has to be a serious accident before anything will be done. McHenry County Sheriff’s Department has jurisdiction from the intersection of Main Street and Marengo Road, the entrance to Del Webb.
There are a total of three 35 mph signs posted for southbound drivers, and one going north. Something is wrong with this picture.
I don’t know if our association has anything to do with this, but maybe they can do something to protect our citizens. This has been ongoing for many moons and I think some people should get off their duffs and try to rectify this problem. Maybe the mayor of our beautiful village can help — more signs or speed bumps or ever possibly traffic enforcement from Huntley’s finest.
On second thought, the snow plows would tear up the speed bumps aside from knocking down mailboxes in the winter.
I think the word relocation sounds like a solution, working for our taxpayers in Del Webb.
