Des Plaines OKs new childcare center

The Des Plaines City Council Monday night approved a conditional use permit for a new child care center in a commercially-zoned district.

Mother's Touch Creative Learning Center, which has operated child care centers in Arlington Heights and Niles for 18 years, will occupy the 12,800-square-foot building at 1666 Rand Road.

A few area residents objected to the center at an earlier council meeting saying it would increase traffic on the adjacent Elk Boulevard, which is a dead-end street. Facility management assured the council that traffic would be staggered.

The center will house a maximum of 156 children and 21 staff members, and operate between 6:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. The facility will include 10 classrooms, administrative offices, restrooms, and kitchen, laundry and break rooms, an indoor play area, and three outdoor play areas on the roughly 37,000-square-foot lot.

Parking will be provided on-site for 34 cars, with a drop-off and pickup area near the building entrance with an additional six parking spaces.
