Assembly to vote on requiring GPS monitoring

Associated Press

MADISON, Wis. — The state Assembly is scheduled to vote on passing a bill that would allow judges to order GPS monitoring for people who violate restraining orders.

The measure passed the Senate last month with bipartisan support.

Under the proposal up for an Assembly vote Tuesday, the Department of Corrections would track the violator’s movements and notify police if the violator enters an area he or she must avoid under the restraining order. Anyone on monitoring would have to pay a $200 surcharge to cover tracking costs.

If the bill passes the Assembly, it would go to Gov. Scott Walker for his consideration.
