Alpine Runners donate to food pantry

Submitted by Mary Hunt

The Alpine Runners of Lake Zurich presented a $2,000 check to St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry recently.

“That money will help people pay their rent, pay bills, and buy food,” said Don Murray, chairman of St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry.

Board members of the Alpine Runners made the decision to donate the proceeds from the 35th Annual Alpine Races, held this past September.

“We always want to give back to the community,” said Beth Onines, founder and president of Alpine Runners.

Through the Northern Illinois Food Bank, St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry is able to purchase food at a discount and they receive donations from Jewel and Target.

“The Jubilee garden that we maintain brought in over 3½ tons of fresh produce,” Murray said.

In addition, the food pantry also receives individual donations of canned goods.

The St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry is located in the St. Francis de Sales Ministry center and serves the community every Thursday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

“Donating the money here is a good thing and the right thing to do,” said Brian Foss, vice president of Alpine Runners.
