Man charged with DUI in St. Charles crash

A 31-year-old St. Charles man has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police said he caused an accident Sunday that left four people — including a 4-year-old girl — injured.

Jair Martinez of the 1700 block of Cumberland Green, was also cited for failure to yield to traffic when police said he turned his 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse in front of an oncoming Ford Explorer at the corner of Randall Road and Prairie Street just before 8 p.m. Sunday, St. Charles Police Department spokesman Paul McCurtain said Monday.

A 65-year-old male from St. Charles and his 58-year-old wife were in the Explorer heading northbound on Randall when they slammed into the right passenger side of the Eclipse, McCurtain said.

The couple, along with Martinez and his 4-year-old daughter — who was in a car seat — were also injured, McCurtain said. All four were taken to Delnor Hospital in Geneva where they were treated and released.

Martinez’s next court date was not immediately available.
