Chimney fire damages Lombard house
No injuries were reported Sunday when a chimney fire caused roughly $12,000 in damage to a Lombard house, authorities said Monday.
Firefighters said they responded at 11:43 a.m. to the house on the 21W000 block of Flamingo. They arrived to find the fire had spread into the structure around the fireplace.
Battalion Chief Ron Rakosnik said the fire was quickly extinguished. There were no signs of foul play.
Rakosnik urged residents to make sure their fireplace is inspected and cleaned annually by a certified chimney sweep to ensure its safety.
