Suburbs remember Sept. 11

Ÿ Families are invited to join the city of Elgin in commemorating Sept. 11, 2001, at a special ceremony at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, at the Civic Plaza, behind city hall at 150 Dexter Court.

The master of ceremonies will be Tricia Dieringer. In addition to combined color guard, the American Legion Elgin Post 57 will provide a rifle salute and taps. The Elgin Fire Department bell ringers will conduct the “Sounding of the Bells” in remembrance of those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001.

Guest speakers will include Mayor David Kaptain and Gene Crume, president of Judson University. For information, call the city of Elgin at (847) 931-6100.

Ÿ The village of Carpentersville and the Carpentersville Fire Department invite the community in remembering the victims of Sept, 11, 2001, and honoring the first responders who sacrificed their lives in order to save others on that historical day.

The Remembrance Ceremony will take place at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, in front of the Firefighter/Sept. 11 Memorial located at Carpentersville Fire Station No. 1, 213 Spring St.

Students from Parkview Elementary, Carpentersville Middle and Dundee-Crown High schools plan to participate, along with the Carpentersville Police Department’s Honor Guard.
