‘Skulloween 2’ fundraiser to aid Elgin’s Public Museum
Submitted by Elgin Public Museum
Downtown Elgin’s Spacetaste Gallery and the historic Elgin Public Museum together will celebrate the spirit of Halloween and the Mexican holiday — the Day of the Dead — with the “Skulloween 2” fundraiser from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at the museum, 225 Grand Blvd., in Lords Park in Elgin.
Spacetaste asked artists to create one-of-a-kind Artskulls to be sold at the gallery, 215 E. Chicago St., and at the museum. Ten of the favorites have been reserved for a live auction, hosted by local Channel 17 “Elgin Today” host Jeff Myers starting at 8 p.m.
The skulls, donated by Elgin resident John LaFleur, have been painted, cut apart, accented and adorned in truly imaginative ways (think “Cows on Parade,” but with skulls), with names like “Goggles”, “Flash”, “Snake Eyes.”
Founded in 1904, the Elgin Public Museum is Illinois’ oldest building, originally built as a museum and still operating today. Proceeds from the sales will be split with the museum to help underwrite the costs of new exhibits. More history on Elgin’s museum can be found at elginpublicmuseum.org.
Admission is free and light refreshments will be served.
