NAMI offers program to help families cope

Submitted by NAMI

The National Alliance on Mental Illness estimates that one in four families is touched in some way by mental illness.

Despite gains in the treatment and opportunities for recovery, coping with the difficulties many people encounter in caring for a relative or friend with mental illness can be difficult.

The NAMI Family-to-Family Education Program is a 12-week course for families and friends of adults living with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression, anxiety disorders and borderline personality disorder.

Course participants gain vital information, insight and understanding of their loved one that many describe as life-changing.

NAMI Kane County North is offering this free course from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturdays, Feb. 23 to May 11, at Provena St. Joseph Hospital, 77 N. Airlite St., Elgin.

Registration is required; class size is limited to 20. Call Lachell at (224) 325-8838 or Laurie at (847) 695-7957 to register for details.
