Lombard Fire Department Responds to Residential Chimney Fire, No Injuries
Upon arrival, it was determined that the fire had extended into the structure surrounding the fireplace. The alarm was upgraded to a General Alarm, bringing an extra Lombard Medic Unit to the scene, as well as fire equipment from York Center, Downers Grove, and Oak Brook. The fire was rapidly extinguished by the initial response and the alarm was struck. No injuries were reported. Damage was estimated at $12,000.
Battalion Chief Ron Rakosnik was the lead fire investigator on the scene and stated that the fire was not suspicious. He advised all residents to make sure their fireplace is inspected and cleaned annually by a certified chimney sweep to ensure its safety
