Literacy Connection seeks volunteer tutors

Submitted by The Literacy Connection

At the beginning of every year, many of us set new goals for ourselves, either at work or within our personal lives. We may decide to enroll in a course to gain some new skills or perhaps we simply want to feel better by eating smarter or exercising more. Learners at The Literacy Connection also set goals. Sadly, almost 200 adults remain on our waiting list to share their goals with someone who can tutor them.

Can you give one to two hours per week to help someone achieve their goals in 2014? Open your heart this February and consider becoming an adult volunteer literacy tutor. You will change your life and someone else’s life.

Tutor Training in February takes place from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturdays, Feb. 8 and 15, at the Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin. Training is free, but requires a $25 textbook fee.

Registration is recommended for those interested in attending. Call The Literacy Connection at (847) 742-6565 or email info@elginliteracy.org for more information.

The Literacy Connection serves 16 northwest suburban Chicago communities including Algonquin, Bartlett, Carpentersville, Cary, Elgin, South Elgin, East Dundee, West Dundee, Gilberts, Hanover Park, Hampshire, Hoffman Estates, Huntley, Lake in the Hills, Streamwood, and Schaumburg. The agency provides customized one-on-one adult tutoring, English conversation groups, and family literacy programs.
