Evening entertainment puts fundraising spotlight on ‘Elgin Non-Profit of the Week’
Submitted by Elgin Area Historical Society
Come out and help support efforts to preserve Elgin history! The Elgin Area Historical Society will be the “Elgin Non-Profit of the Week” from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, at Villa Verone, 13 Douglas Ave., Elgin.
There will be lots of fun with raffles, a 50/50 raffle, and free appetizers. Restaurant owner Pietro Verone has been helping the Elgin nonprofit community by highlighting a variety of groups at a weekly karaoke night. A percentage of profits from the evening will be donated to the museum to assist with a variety of projects, including the future windmill interpretive site in Foundry Park.
The Elgin History Museum, located at 360 Park St., is open from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday to Saturday, all year. Two floors of exhibits tell the story of Elgin’s heritage from 1835 to the 1970s. Unpack the Gifford’s wagon as they move into their log cabin, hear the tick of an Elgin watch, ride in a car at the Elgin Road Races, and open the door to Elgin architecture at the Elgin History Museum.
Admission is $3 for adults, $1 for students. Members and children 5 and under are admitted free.
