ESO to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month
Tango with the Elgin Symphony Orchestra this weekend as it celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month.
“Night of Enchantment” is the theme for the upcoming Classic Concert on Saturday, Oct. 6, and Sunday, Oct. 7, at the Hemmens Cultural Center, 45 Symphony Way in Elgin.
The music will create pictures in your mind of hot Latin nights and sleek tango dancers as the ESO musicians present Latin-inspired classic works including Danzón No. 2 and “The Night of the Mayas.”
Guest conductor Andres Franco was born in Colombia into a family of musicians and started his studies under the direction of his father, Jorge Franco. An accomplished pianist, he studied with Jose Feghali, Rudolph Buchbinder and Lev Naumov. He received his master’s degrees in piano performance and conducting from Texas Christian University. Andrés Franco is currently associate conductor of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and principal conductor of Caminos del Inka.
Elena Urioste, the guest violinist, was featured on the cover of “Symphony” magazine as an emerging artist to watch, has been hailed by critics and audiences alike for her lush tone, the nuanced lyricism of her playing, and her commanding stage presence. Elena’s debut performances with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in 2010 were praised by three separate critics for their “hypnotic delicacy,” “expressive poise,” and “lyrical sensitivity.” Since first appearing with the Philadelphia Orchestra at age 13, she has made acclaimed debuts with major orchestras throughout the United States and Europe.
