ESO performs movie music by John Williams this weekend

Submitted by Elgin Symphony Orchestra

Celebrate some of the best movie scores ever written this weekend as the Elgin Symphony Orchestra performs a collection of movie music by John Williams. The concert will include music from “Superman,” “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” “Warhorse,” and more. Whether you want to battle the dark side with Luke Skywalker, search tombs with Indiana Jones, or fly through the air with Superman — it is impossible to not have an emotional connection to the amazing music generations have come to love.

Matthew Kraemer will be the guest conductor. Recognized for his “musical sensitivity” and “energized sense of interpretation,” the conductor is quickly gaining notice for his inspired performances and innovative programming. Kraemer has recently been appointed music director and conductor of both the Butler County Symphony Orchestra and the Erie Chamber Orchestra. He continues to hold the Montante Family Endowed Associate Conductor’s Chair with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, where he appears on each of the orchestra’s major series.

Timothy McAllister is one of America’s premier concert saxophone performers. His solo, orchestral, and chamber music recordings appear on the Naxos, Albany, Summit, Equilibrium, Centaur, OMM, G.I.A. Publications, New Focus, AUR, New Dynamic and Innova labels. A dedicated teacher of his instrument, he serves as professor of saxophone and co-director of the Institute for New Music at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music.

Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at Schaumburg Prairies Center for the Arts. Concerts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20 will be performed at Elgin’s Hemmens Cultural Center. For tickets, call the ESO box office at (847) 888-4000 or visit www.elginsymphony.org.
