Elgin’s Fideliter Club to host 125th Charity Ball

Submitted by Fideliter Club

The Fideliter Club of Elgin, a nonprofit organization, will hold its 125th annual Charity Ball on Saturday, Nov. 16 at the Elgin Country Club. This year’s ball celebrates the rich tradition of the Fideliter Club in the Elgin community. It is co-chaired by Mary Ellen Kanies Beckmann and Linda O’Connor of Elgin.

The black-tie event will begin with cocktails at 6:30 p.m. and dinner at 7:30 p.m., with special entertainment and dancing to the music of popular vocalist Lisa McClowry. The cost is $250 per couple, or $125 per person. For reservations or information, call Kay Loeloff at (847) 695-3537.

McClowry is a popular vocalist and recently released “Lisa McClowry Sings Acoustic Alchemy.” The project marks another inspiring collaboration between the singer and her longtime co-writer and producer Jim Peterik, the driving force behind the CD, who produced and wrote the uplifting lyrics to each song. Peterik is the legendary Grammy and Oscar winning singer/songwriter (“Eye Of The Tiger”) and renowned in pop history for his founding roles with the super rock groups The Ides of March and Survivor.

“We are honored to co-chair this significant achievement, in celebrating our 125th Fideliter Charity Ball,” Beckmann said. “It is an honor to follow the footsteps of many incredible women over the years.”

“The Fideliter Club is Elgin’s oldest philanthropic organization founded in 1888,” added O’Connor. “Through the proceeds of our annual charity ball, we are able to provide donations to local nonprofit organizations that support women, families, and children.”

The Fideliter Club also provides donations to the milk fund at the Elgin Child and Family Resource Center and the developmental and bilingual preschool programs in Elgin Area School District U-46. These donations are possible because of the generosity of local individuals and businesses. In addition to attendance fees, the ball raises money through sponsorships and the annual raffle with prizes donated by club members and area businesses. Raffle tickets are $25 each or five for $100. The Fideliter Club of Elgin is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization.

In its earlier years, members of the Fideliter Club would personally visit the neediest families in Elgin to provide food and clothing. These were times before the motorcar and the telephone. Club members personally made many long trips to carry out their generosity.

The Fideliter Club today is composed of 34 women from the greater Elgin area. The 2012 officers are:, Brenda Morrissy, president; Mary Ellen Beckmann and Linda O’Connor, first vice presidents; Kacey Rupczynski and Ann Warner, second vice presidents; Christine Kujawa, recording secretary; Jennifer Colby, corresponding secretary; Kay Loeloff, treasurer; Angie Young, immediate past president; and Nancy McKenna, historian.

For information about the Fideliter Club Charity Ball, or to donate to this worthwhile cause benefiting area children, call Brenda Morrissy at (847) 888-9303.
