Elgin man bowls his way to 14th annual Turkey Title
Submitted by Bowlway Lanes
Bowlway Lanes’ 14th annual Thanksgiving No-Tap tournament drew a strong field of bowlers from the surrounding suburbs, but Elgin resident Bob Gancarz claimed the Turkey Title by rolling games of 266, 283 and 303, including 75 pins of handicap for a 852 first-place series.
Finishing second was another Elgin resident, Eddie Czlapinski, with an 844 series. Coming in third place was Eric Griswold from Lake in the Hills with an 836 series.
The annual Bowlway No-Tap tournament is a festive event that also features a competitive environment. That may explain why the tournament continues to be popular and draw multiple entries every year at the Art Deco-styled bowling center with 16 lanes.
According to tournament director Cindy Walden, 67 bowlers participated in this year’s tournament — a solid turnout. Earnings remained strong with close to $2,400 paid out in total prize money.
Gancarz’ first-place finish earned him $515 with Czlapinski taking $260 for second place and Griswold took $170 for third place. The final standings for the top five finishers included: first place, Bob Gancarz with 852 for $515; second place, Eddie Czlapinski with 844 for $260; third place, Eric Griswold with 836 for $170; fourth place, Don Harrison with 826 for $105; and fifth place, Kevin Olliges with 821 for $75.
There were also four 300 games shot during the tournament: Jason Bault, Eddie Czlapinkski, Eric Griswold and Chris Schultz.
Next up at Bowlway Lanes, 810 Villa St., Elgin, will be the New Year’s Day No-Tap Handicap Tournament on Wednesday, Jan. 1. For information about the tournament, call Bowlway Lanes at (847) 741-0155 or visit www.bowlelgin.com.
