Donations of time or money sought for Elgin Community Thanksgiving Dinner

Consider making a donation or volunteering for the Elgin Community Thanksgiving Dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 28, at First United Methodist Church, 216 E. Highland Ave., Elgin.

Donations should be made payable to the Elgin Community Network and mailed or dropped at In The Neighborhood Deli, 185 N. Edison Ave., Elgin IL 60123; cash donations also will be accepted.

The financial goal is $5,000 in order to feed 1,500 people. The menu will feature turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, vegetable, bread and butter and desserts. Coffee, water and lemonade will be served.

To volunteer, contact (847) 888-9486 or itndeli@gmail.com. The shifts are 8 to 10:30 a.m.; 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; or 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

They also will be accepting dessert donations to be dropped off Wednesday, Nov. 27, at In The Neighborhood Deli, 185 N. Edison Ave., between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. or on Thursday, Nov. 28, at First United Methodist Church between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. There also will be a toiletry drive.

The partners for the event include: First United Methodist Church; Food for Friends; Elgin Salvation Army Corps; In The Neighborhood Deli; Grand Victoria Casino; Elgin Harvest Market; Shales McNutt; TMI Tee’s; A-1 Cab; Edison Ave. Consulting; and Dr. Gary Kazmer.
