Creative dance festival comes to Elgin

Elgin Ties Dance Festival will debut its first show April 19-21 at the Elgin Art Showcase, 164 Division St., eighth floor, Elgin.

It is an Elgin-based collaboration between choreographers Erin Rehberg of Core Project Chicago and Sara Krikau of Veritydance New York.

The festival, curated by Elgin natives Sara Krikau and Erin Rehberg, celebrates the ties that dance, in collaboration with like-minded artists, can bring to its audience members. The festival celebrates by premiering new works, showcasing students and professionals, offering new experiences to the Elgin Art Showcase, and continuing artist networking for the continuation of enlightening Elgin with the beauty of art through dance.

Its goal is to generate and infiltrate the local dance scene; creating work, and presenting showcases of work that give new opportunities to local pre-professional and professional dancers, choreographers, and performance artists.

They also will bring “big city” dance out of Chicago and New York City and into Elgin, which has been called “the city in the suburbs.”

The “city” vision of Elgin Ties Dance Festival includes a wide variety of art combined with dance including media, site-specific performance, spoken word, as well as traditional ballet and contemporary dance. With the eclectic mix of arts, it desires to stretch and create new experience to the local Elgin art audience.

It will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 19, and Saturday, April 20; and 3 p.m. Sunday, April 21.

Tickets are $10 in advance. $12 at door, or $8 with student ID. To purchase tickets for Elgin Ties Dance Festival, visit etdf.eventbrite.com. For information on the festival, visit www.veritydance.com/elgin-ties-dance-festival.html.
