One dead in fatal apartment fire in Zion
A Zion man died early Saturday when a fire broke out in his apartment in the Park Trails complex in the far north suburb, Zion Fire and Rescue Department Battalion Chief Eric Troy said in a news release.
Lake County coroner officials will have to use DNA to positively identify the man, who was discovered dead on arrival in his apartment on the 3400 block of Sheridan Road, officials said.
Firefighters got a report of the structure fire at 3:11 a.m. and found heavy smoke in a lower-level unit. The blaze started in the unit where the man was killed, officials said.
The cause remains under investigation.
Troy said no residents were displaced, and everyone was allowed to return to their apartments.
Zion firefighters were assisted by crews from Beach Park, Newport, Winthrop Harbor, Gurnee and Waukegan.
