Student charged in school stabbings
A 17-year-old student has been charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of a classmate at a Chicago high school for children with behavioral and emotional problems.
Chicago police said Friday that Christian Gonzalez is also charged with attempted murder for stabbing and injuring another student.
Gonzalez is due in bond court Saturday. It wasn’t immediately clear whether he has an attorney.
Family members identified the slain teen as 17-year-old Chris Wormely, who died a short time after the attack Thursday morning.
Officials say the stabbings happened as the teens entered AMIkids Infinity Chicago on the city’s South Side and before they had reached a security checkpoint.
AMIkids Inc. is a company that contracts with Chicago Public Schools and serves about 20 students with behavioral and emotional issues.
