Help Des Plaines native ruck march Boston Marathon

Des Plaines native Amberly Glitz, a Providence College ROTC cadet preparing for a promising career in the U.S. Army, will once again ruck march her way through the Boston Marathon on April 16.

Featured last fall in the Daily Herald’s Suburban Standouts column, Glitz will strap a 40-pound rucksack to her petite frame while marching the 26.2-mile course in full uniform to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project.

The organization provides a wide spectrum of programs to support severely injured troops returning home from combat.

For the fourth year in a row, the college senior is part of a group that ruck marches to honor a Rhode Island guardsman killed in Iraq.

Glitz, who recently earned a slot in the Army’s pilot training program next year, said she greatly appreciates any support in her endeavor to raise both money and awareness for the Wounded Warrior Project. She also signed off with “hooah,” a common Army term that means anything but no.
