Gary utilty worker finds skull along street

GARY, Ind. — Investigators say a dead-end street in Gary where a utility worker found a human skull likely contains the remains of at least one body.

The American Water Co. employee found the skull Thursday afternoon in a trash-filled area just north of the Borman Expressway. Police called to the scene discovered clothing remnants and other bones in the area, which is filled with vacant lots and a few homes.

The Post-Tribune of Merrillville reports that investigators say it will take them until at least Saturday to determine exactly what remains are at the site.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office has asked University of Indianapolis forensic anthropologist Stephen Nawrocki to come to the scene and help identify and remove any skeletal parts.
