Music notes: Yes, Jon Anderson’s back at Viper Alley

Just say Yes

Jon Anderson, former vocalist and songwriter for prog-rock band Yes, will make a stop in the suburbs this weekend for a special solo show. Anderson, known for his sophisticated imagination and creativity (not to mention his high singing voice!), was a key player in Yes during its heyday in the 1970s and then again in the 1980s when the band scored a huge hit with the album “90215.”

8:30 p.m. Friday, June 8, at Viper Alley, 275 Parkway Drive, Lincolnshire. Limited tickets still available (as of press time) starting at $42. Go to viper-alley.com.

‘Reely’ good tribute

Fans of the band Steely Dan should set aside some time this weekend to see Reely Dan, the acclaimed tribute band, in Rosemont. Reely Dan is known for putting on a show that perfectly captures the original band’s mix of rock, jazz and funk.

8:30 p.m. Saturday, June 9, at the Montrose Room, located inside the InterContinental Chicago O’Hare hotel, 5300 N. River Road, Rosemont. Tickets start at $25. Go to montroseroom.com.

Reissues coming

I love CD reissues, and several intriguing ones are on the horizon. Here’s an early look:

Ÿ Bob Mould’s post-Husker Du band Sugar was a great (if short-lived) part of the 1990s alternative-rock revolution. Merge Records will reissue the band’s entire catalog on July 24. Sugar’s classic 1992 debut album, “Copper Blue,” will be released together with the 1993 EP “Beaster” as a three-disc set, including a live CD from a show at Chicago’s Metro. Sugar’s final record, 1994’s “File Under Easy Listening,” will be released as a two-disc set. Here’s a chance to hear one of the best bands of the past 20 years in a new way. Go to mergerecords.com.

Ÿ Boutique label Shout! Factory is getting ready to release “The Complete Beat,” a five-disc box set that collects all three studio albums released by legendary rock/ska band The English Beat, along with two discs full of alternate takes and other bonus material. This must-have set is scheduled to be released on July 10. Go to shoutfactory.com.
