The Rotary Club of Palatine was founded almost 50 years ago to support the people of the village of Palatine and to promote international understanding and friendship. The Rotary Club was just named “Community Organization of the Year” by the Palatine Chamber of Commerce.

The organization has supported many local projects over the years, including the Firefighters’ Memorial, the Wood Street gazebo, the handicapped accessible playground at the Salt Creek Park District and other projects.

The Rotary Club supports a broad spectrum of worthy local charities that aid those in need in Palatine and surrounding communities.

Most recently, the Rotary Club sponsored the Palatine Oktoberfest Event in downtown Palatine. This event is the primary fundraiser for the club, but it is more than that. It is an event that brings together people of all ages and backgrounds from the village and surrounding communities.

The club recently formed a 501(c) 3 organization — The Palatine Rotary Foundation. It is through this foundation that the Rotary Club collects Oktoberfest revenues and makes contributions to local charities.

International projects include clean water and soy milk projects in Guatemala, ShelterBox Emergency Rescue Systems for wherever they’re required, plus reading and school support in Africa and India.

The Rotary Club of Palatine is a part of Rotary International, which has for decades been involved in the eradication of polio worldwide. The Rotary Club recently established a Rotaract chapter, which is designed for members ages 30 and younger.

The Rotary of Palatine Club has about 40 active members who meet at 7:15 a.m. Tuesdays at the Red Apple Pancake House & Cafe, 2121 Plum Grove Road, Rolling Meadows, (847) 925-8048.
