Immigration coalition holds rally promoting agenda

SPRINGFIELD — Over 1,000 people from Chicago, the suburbs and downstate, came to Springfield for a rally to urge legislators to support a diverse immigration agenda.

The Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights brought together the leaders from over 130 partner organizations to promote the agenda. They call it the “One Nation, One Dream.”

The agenda includes fair funding for immigrant integration programs, health care access, the AllKids health insurance program, employment plans and preventing hatred toward immigrants.

Democratic State Sen. William Delgado of Chicago spoke in support of the coalition. He says everyone should be able to get driver’s licenses as well, including undocumented people. He says it is matter of public safety, preventing uninsured motorists who don’t know the rules of the road.
