Des Plaines officers commended for robbery arrest

Des Plaines city officials recently acknowledged four police department personnel with commendations, presented to “officers who perform an outstanding police act with diligence, perseverance, or exceptional ability that notably contributes to enhancing the image of the department.”

On Oct. 15, Sgt. Mike Holdman, Officer Ben Ruzicka, Officer Brian Hart and Officer Thomas Boniak, members of the Department’s Tactical Team, successfully aided in the apprehension and arrest of an individual involved in the armed robbery of the Extended Stay and the Comfort Inn.

The subject, who later confessed and was found to have a stolen weapon and money from the previous robberies on his person, was en route to another hotel which he planned to rob when police apprehended him.

Acting Police Chief Mike Kozak, who presented the commendations to the officers Tuesday, Jan. 17, credited the officers for their promptness in reacting to the situation and with an ability to outthink the offender.
