Police: Lake County woman claims fake IDs needed for prostitution
Round Lake Park police say a woman has been charged with possessing Social Security cards, a birth certificate and state identification deemed to be fake.
Police Chief George Filenko said Imelda M. Luna, 30, of the 26000 block of West Street in unincorporated Lake County near Antioch, claimed she needed the bogus IDs for her work as a prostitute and boasted to a detective that she earned $1,500 to $2,000 per job.
Luna was charged with six counts of possessing fictitious identification and one count of felony obstructing justice.
Filenko said Luna remained in the Lake County jail Wednesday on a DuPage County arrest warrant and a hold was placed on her by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency. He said Luna is believed to be an illegal immigrant.
Luna drew attention to herself when she was backing a Nissan from a restaurant onto westbound Route 134 across from the Round Lake Park police headquarters, Filenko said.
Filenko said an officer watched Luna nearly collide with a semitrailer truck, then pulled her over on a traffic stop.
“She tells him she doesn't have a valid ID or proof of insurance,” the police chief said.
After Luna provided what turned out to be a fake name and birth date, Filenko said, the officer searched her purse. Police found a California birth certificate, three Illinois state identification cards and two Social Security cards.
Filenko said different names were on the fictitious identification possessed by Luna. He said Internal Revenue Service tax problems could arise for those whose names are on the IDs if Luna used them to gain employment. Luna told police she paid $250 for each bogus ID, according to Filenko.
Luna was wanted on the DuPage County warrant for a traffic offense when she was arrested in Round Lake Park.
