Bill would transfer no call list to feds

MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin legislators are considering transferring management of the state’s popular do-not-call list to the Federal Trade Commission.

The list contains 2.3 million phone numbers that are blocked from telemarketing calls. A state Assembly bill scheduled for a public hearing Tuesday would transfer the numbers to the FTC’s national do-not-call list. While the state’s registry is good for two years, the federal list is permanent.

The bill’s author, Rep. Keith Ripp, of Lodi (LOH’-deye), tells the Journal Sentinel it would make it less confusing for people who don’t remember to renew their registration on the state list.
