Police: Ind. woman tried to attack police with axe
TRAFALGAR, Ind. — Central Indiana police say a woman who called 911 and told a dispatcher her 3-year-old son was dead tried to attack officers with an axe after they found the boy’s body in her apartment.
WTHR-TV reports that after 33-year-old Amanda Smith called 911 Monday night, her mother placed a second call in which she said her daughter had told her she “had done something to her child that could not be undone.”
When officers broke into Smith’s Trafalgar apartment they found the boy’s lifeless body. As they were turning the boy over to paramedics, police say Smith jumped out of a closet and began swinging an axe at the officers.
Smith surrendered to police and was taken to the Johnson County Jail. Prosecutors are preparing formal charges.
