Milwaukee school board to meet about violence
MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee school board is calling a special meeting after four students have been killed since December.
Officials are expected to talk about safety at Milwaukee’s 175 public schools and call for the community to help at the meeting Tuesday evening.
Even though the crimes didn’t happen on school property, School Board President Michael Bonds says they are concerned for students’ safety inside and outside of school.
According to the district, three of the deaths were homicides and one was classified as a self-defense killing. They say more youths are also getting involved in robberies.
The district quotes some community leaders as saying increased poverty may be causing more youths to act out.
