Early Wis. trout season starts Saturday
MADISON, Wis. — Here’s one sure sign of spring: Wisconsin’s early trout season starts this weekend.
The catch-and-release season gets under way at 5 a.m. Saturday and runs until midnight on April 29. Most trout streams should be open except for most Lake Superior tributaries and most streams in northeastern Wisconsin.
State Department of Natural Resources biologists say prospects look good. Little snow means streams should be easily accessible, trout populations are strong across most streams and the fish should be especially active from early to late afternoon.
Anglers must use artificial lures and flies.
