St. Patrick’s eighth-graders present Academic Fair

Submitted by Rachel Priebe

On Feb. 15, St Patrick’s eighth-grade students participated in an Academic Fair. A total of 57 participants presented individual visual displays and gave oral presentations on a variety of topics to a panel of 16 judges. Certificates and ribbons were awarded.

Wednesday’s judging was a culmination of 12 weeks of hard work by the students. Topics ranged from Michael Jackson to the traditional Japanese art of origami, and just about everything in between.

After conducting research, students compiled information into an essay, an oral presentation and a visual display.

St. Patrick Junior High English teacher Adele Smith feels the extensive academic projects prepare students for future high school assignments.

“ I believe this project gives them a great foundation,” Smith said. “It’s also a great way to increase student interest since the students choose their own topics.”

Congratulations to all of the participants. Their hard work and dedication paid off.
