Glen Crest Math Counts Team Competing at State Math Counts Contest

On Saturday, February 18, Glen Crest Middle School's Math Counts team competed in the regional Math Counts competition held in Addison. The middle school team, consisting of Andrew Pen, Avinash Panjwani,  Stephen Bean and Alban Dulaj finished 4th in the regional competition.  This placement qualified Glen Crest for the state level contest.  Team sponsor, Math teacher Monica Shekar, was excited for the students, and announced to the Glen Crest student body, “ Our Glen Crest team did extremely well in the all important regional Math Counts competition and qualified to go on to the state level! The winning team at the state contest will go on to the National Math Counts competition.”

Saturday, March 3, the Glen Crest Math Counts team will test their Math skills in the State Contest held in Lisle. At the regional competition they bested 150 mathletes to finish fourth as a team while Andrew Pen  finished 6th and Avinash Panjwani finished 14th in the entire competition.

Shekar feels that his year has been great for Glen Crest mathletes.  Having started the season with a big win at Montini, students are doing extremely well.  They have one more competition after the state level meet.  On March 14th, Glen Crest Math team will be competing in the Junior Math Contest at the Illinois Math and Science Academy (IMSA) in Aurora.  "We are hoping to have a strong finish this year," stated Shekar.
