Man fatally shot after N. Indiana police chase

LAPAZ, Ind. — State police say officers in northern Indiana fatally shot a man who fired at them after fleeing from a traffic stop.

Police say 62-year-old Mark Albright of Plymouth led officers on a chase for several miles Thursday night after an Argos officer tried to stop him. Marshall County, Walkerton and state Department of Natural Resources officers joined in the chase as it went north on U.S. 31 and then west on U.S. 6 near the town of LaPaz.

Police say Albright abruptly stopped his pickup truck on a rural road in northern Marshall County then started to run away and shot toward the chasing officers. They returned fire and Albright was pronounced dead at a South Bend hospital.

No officers were injured.
