Trapped woman rescued from burning car in NE Ind.

LIGONIER, Ind. — Northeastern Indiana police say a woman trapped in a car following a fiery crash was rescued just before the vehicle burst into flames.

Twenty-six-year-old Tiffany Miller remained in critical condition Thursday morning at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.

Homeowner Mike Weimer was sleeping in his rural Noble County home when the sound of a crash woke him about 5 a.m. Wednesday.

He tells The News-Sun of Kendallville he tried to douse the burning car’s flames with fire extinguishers to protect Miller after the car’s driver and another passenger made it out after the car crashed into a tree.

A passing motorist then stopped and used a hammer to smash a window in the car and the two men pulled Miller to safety just before it was engulfed in flames.
