Indiana Girl Scout camp ownership fight nears end

VINCENNES, Ind. — A yearslong dispute over the ownership of a former Girl Scouts camp in southwestern Indiana could be near a resolution as a judge weighs the fate of the 10-acre site.

The Vincennes Sun-Commercial reports attorneys for Vincennes Girls Inc. and the Illinois-based Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois presented oral arguments Wednesday before a Knox Circuit Court judge.

The two sides have been disputing ownership of Camp Wildwood since early 2009, when the Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois decided to close the property and remove its availability to Vincennes’ Girl Scouts chapter. The Vincennes chapter maintains that violates a 1965 agreement.

Circuit Court Judge Sherry Gregg Gilmore said she would take the oral arguments into consideration and reconvene the case on March 5.
