These ‘Boots’ are made for Chicago first

Grammy Award-winning pop star Cyndi Lauper’s first attempt at writing a Broadway musical score is coming to Chicago.

“Kinky Boots” is set to play a pre-Broadway engagement at Chicago’s Bank of America Theatre in October. Casting and specific dates have not been announced yet by lead producers Daryl Roth and Hal Luftig.

Lauper’s “Kinky Boots” musical collaborators include four-time Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein (“Torch Song Trilogy,” “A Catered Affair”) who is writing the script, while Tony Award-winner Jerry Mitchell (“Hairspray,” “Legally Blonde”) will direct and choreograph.

“Kinky Boots” is based on the 2005 British film of the same name. The movie was inspired by a true story about a failing shoe manufacturing company in Northern England that tries to reverse their fortunes by making specialty “fetish footwear.”

“Kinky Boots” also appears to be one of the first pre-Broadway productions set to utilize recently passed Illinois tax incentives to lure theater producers to develop musicals and plays in the state.

Ticket will range from $33 to $100 with a select number of premium-priced seats for many performances. Tickets are only available now to groups of 15 or more by calling (312) 977-1710. Individual tickets go on sale at a later date. Visit broadwayinchicago.com for future updates.
