Des Plaines finance department lauded

A certificate of achievement for excellence in financial reporting has been awarded to Des Plaines Director of Finance Dorothy Wisniewski and the city’s finance department for its comprehensive annual financial report.

The award comes from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.

The certificate of achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

The city’s comprehensive annual financial report has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.

“The city is extremely proud of the quality work Dorothy Wisniewski and the Finance Department have contributed to the development of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report,” said Acting City Manager Jason Slowinski in a news release.

“The expertise and precision that is necessary for the creation of this document lends to the professionalism of the organization and reflects positively on the city.”

The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago and Washington D.C.
