Values show in what we watch

I was thinking about all the ranting and raving about family values, the right’s moral outrage, the supposed war against Christianity which led me to think about all the sex scandals with all our politicians, especially that Christian Newt guy, and that made me think of our culture.

I do not believe gay marriage or diversity of religion is to blame for the breakdown of family values. I think it is the sordid reporting of sex scandals, TV shows like the Real Housewives of Who Cares Where, the TV glorification of teen motherhood and the insanity of Dance Moms, the sexually revolting behaviors on the Bachelor — and did I mention Mob Wives?

Family values are being challenged by the lurid television shows and paparazzi journalism that panders to our baser nature. So instead of blaming issues such as marriage equality and religious freedom for the demise of the “American Family” look at what you watch on TV — and how you act toward your neighbors.
