ECC President talks to Kiwanis

Submitted by St. Charles Noon Kiwanis

St. Charles Noon Kiwanis Club recently heard the latest updates on Elgin Community College. ECC President David Sam began by thanking Kiwanian and chairman of the ECC board of trustees Robert McBride for “making things happen and providing the leadership that has brought the college this far.”

With more than 11,000 enrolled, ECC is one of the top community colleges in the state of Illinois. ECC has received the “Distinguished Budget Presentation Award,” has an AA+ Standard and Poors credit rating, and has enjoyed a 41 percent increase in certificates and degrees over the last four years. When a bond referendum was passed by a slim margin in 2009, it transformed the college into the 21st century. Much needed upgrades were made to the library, Health & Science and more. This helped bring this Kane County college to be ranked in the top 3 in Illinois.

In addition, 29 percent of St. Charles graduating students attend ECC — the highest in the area. Last year, $28 million in aid was given to students.

St. Charles Noon Kiwanis is fortunate to have McBride as a member for 12 years. Club President John Radman thanked McBride, Sam, and Michael Mulcrone for their presentation on this very important community and educational matter.

St. Charles Noon Kiwanis is an organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time. The meetings are at noon Tuesdays at PNC Bank, 2600 E. Main St., St. Charles. If you are interested in more information or joining, call Lori Linkimer, membership chairwoman, at (630) 841-3278.
