Checkout laptops to use in Palatine library

In addition to the 60 Internet computer stations already available at the main library, Palatine Public Library District now offers laptops for checkout and use within the library building. The library recently launched its laptop lending program, adding an additional 12 computers and four LCD projectors, making its computer resources more easily accessible for patrons.

Estevan Montano, technology manager, explained how the laptop lending will benefit patrons: “Library patrons have the freedom to use these laptops in a favorite quiet spot or study area. They are connected to the library’s wireless Internet network, run on Windows 7 operating system, and feature Microsoft Office 2010. Patrons can also check out a projector to use for group meetings.”

Laptop lending takes advantage of the library’s expanded wireless network and broadens use of the computer facilities to the study rooms, and virtually any chair in the library building.

The laptops and projectors may be checked out for two hours by Palatine Public Library cardholders ages 14 and up.

“We are really excited to offer this service,” Assistant Director Anthony Auston said. “We hope our patrons will appreciate the convenience and flexibility that these devices offer.”
