Don’t ‘fix’ garbage pickup, it’s just fine

As a 50-plus-year resident of Rolling Meadows, I question the intentions of the Rolling Meadows City Council to privatize our refuse collection.

I had stated at the council meeting in December that we have never had a refuse problem. The service is and has been exemplary. Why in the world do we need to change?

Alderman Mike Cannon said if people realize they have the potential to save $100 or $150 a house, it would sway opinion. It will not sway ours. We have never questioned the cost of our refuse service.

I would rather pay a bit more and be satisfied than to pay less and have an inferior service. We know what we have, but what would we be getting? What would the hidden charges be? What about lawn waste and special pickups, for example?

He also stated, “It boggles my mind how people are so in love with our garbage trucks.” We are not in love with the garbage trucks. We are in love with the service!

The city council has already discontinued the twice a year chipper program. What do we save now? We save nothing because now we will have to pay a landscaper to do the job.

Can the Rolling Meadows City Council find a project that would improve the city instead of trying to fix something that isn’t broke.

Give your alderman a call.
