Schaumburg wins landsscaping award

The Village of Schaumburg was honored with the 2012 Excellence in Landscaping Award from the Illinois Landscape Contractors Association. The Olde Schaumburg Center Parking Lot was selected to receive an Excellence in Landscape Gold Award in the Sustainable Landscape category. The project involved the construction of a new roadway, detention basins, permeable paver parking lot, recycled rainwater irrigation system, LED parking lot/roadway lighting, ornamental, and native landscaping.Several goals were incorporated into the project: additional parking for local businesses, needed storm water management, and incorporating sustainable practices while still meeting the requirements of the local historic district. The village selected paving bricks and traditionally styled lighting fixtures to fit the historic district. Period ornamental plantings were complimented with native prairie species throughout the project to provide biodiversity.
