Three hurt when crowd turns on performers in Elgin

At least three people were hurt in Elgin early Sunday when a concert crowd turned violent after the band they were expecting didn’t show up to perform, police reports state.

According to reports, police were called shortly after midnight Sunday to La Movida Banquet Hall, 840 N. State St., when two band members and one audience member suffered cuts, bruising and swelling from being hit by bottles and perhaps even a chair during the fracas. The audience member was taken to Sherman Hospital, reports said.

The violence broke out when a band from Chicago took to the stage instead of one from Kansas that audience came to hear, reports said. An audience member threw a bottle at the performers and started a wider scuffle among the crowd and band members, reports said.

The owner of La Movida, who could not be reached for comment Sunday, told police he would not charge for the concert, reports said.

No charges were filed.
