Applications available for Guerin scholarship

The Zion Firefighters Fundraising Inc. and Scholarship Committee announces the third annual Robert K. Guerin Memorial Scholarship.

The scholarship, created in 2010 to honor the memory of Lt. Robert K. Guerin who served 30 years with the Zion Fire and Rescue Department, will assist with the post high school educational expenses for children of members of the Lake County fire service.

Several scholarships will be offered to recipients who exemplify the qualities of integrity, commitment to others, and community involvement. Each scholarship will be at least $1,000 and will apply toward tuition, books or school required expenses.

Scholarships are open to all high school seniors and current students ages 22 and younger who are children or legal dependents of a Lake County Firefighter/Paramedic/EMT.

All eligible students must also have a 2.5 or higher cumulative GPA and plan on pursuing or continuing full-time college, trade or vocational school. The selection process will also consist of a written essay and additional support documentation, if requested.

Applications must be received or postmarked by March 30. Applications are available online at www.guerinfoundation.com.
